Isaac Hayes, The Black Moses

The Moses of Soul music is no more. He left us This Monday, August 10, 2008 at the age of 65 (20 August 1942/10 August 2008).


Isaac's parents died during his childhood are his grandparents who raised him. He began singing at age 5 and taught himself to play piano, organ and saxophone. He moved to Memphis to play in the club circuit in the city. He was a member of various groups, including Sir Isaac & The Doo-Dads, the Teen Tones and Sir Calvin and His Swinging Cats.

In 1962 he began recording songs for various local labels.

In 1964, he signed with the famous Stax label records. Isaac is working with the saxophonist Mar-Keys, Floyd Newman and replaced from time to time Booker T. Jones.
