Fraternity Initiation Humiliation

Tom Scott (and The L.A. Express)

(Los Angeles, California, May 19, 1948)

From a family of musicians (pianist mother, father writing scores for film and television), Tom Scott learned the clarinet, is exerted on the composition and arrangement by himself. Soon he mastered the full range of saxophones and flutes, and performed in orchestras of Don Elis, Oliver Nelson, Roger Kellaway and Howard Roberts.
At 19, he recorded his first album as a leader and worked in the studios of Hollywood as a composer of film music and shows. During the 70s, he performed in clubs in Los Angeles, mostly with Vic Feldman, John Guerrin, Chuck Domanico and Roger Kellaway, working towards a synthesis of jazz-rock. The result is the creation of Tom Scott and The LA Express , a pioneer in the field of fusion. He is also the accompanist for the singer Joni Mitchell. He has recorded and performed with Gerry Mulligan, Woody Herman, Tony Williams, George Benson, Diane Schuur and others. His album Born again (1992) marks a distinct return to form of hard bop modernized.
undeniably Tom Scott is a gifted music, no area is foreign to him, a bit like a Mike Brecker.
